Hadith 5
Sayyiduna Abu Talha (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that he once entered the Court of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and noticed that the Habeeb of Almighty Allah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) was in a state of great joy and happiness. When he inquired as to the reason for this, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) replied that, “Why should I not be happy and joyous? At this very moment Sayyiduna Jibra’el Ameen (alaihis salaam) has brought me a message. Almighty Allah has declared, ‘O Muhammad! Are you not pleased with this, that if any of your followers sends a single Durood upon you, I and My Angels (Malaa’ikah) send ten blessings upon that person, ten of his sins are pardoned and ten good deeds are recorded in his favour. He who sends Salaams upon you, I send Salaams upon him, so therefore, notify your Ummah of this good news and tell them that it is now left to them to either increase or decrease the recital of the Durood Shareef’”. (Nisaai)
Hadith 6
It is recorded that Sayyiduna Abi bin Kaab (radi Allahu anhu) inquired from Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) as to how much time should he dedicate for reading Durood Shareef. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) replied, “As much as you wish”. He then asked, “Should I not dedicate a quarter of my time?” Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) replied, “As you wish, if you increase the recitation it would be better for you”. He further asked, “O Master! If it is better, should I not dedicate half my time?” Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) replied, “As you wish. If you increase it though, it would be better for you”. Sayyiduna Abi bin Kaab (radi Allahu anhu) then remarked, “O Master! Should I not, therefore, dedicate my entire time in the recital of the Durood?” To this Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) replied, “If you do this, then all your obligations will be fulfilled and all your sins will be forgiven!” (Mishkaat)Commentary: From the above Hadith, we clearly realise the excellence of reading the Durood Shareef as much as possible. O Almighty Allah! Grant us the strength to increase the recital of the Durood Shareef. Aameen.
Hadith 7
It is reported that once Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) was sitting in the Masjid when a person entered to perform his Salaah. After the Salaah, the person made Du’a to Almighty Allah in the following manner, “O Allah! Please forgive me and have mercy on me”. On hearing this, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) stated, “O Reciter of the Salaah! You have been extremely hasty. When you complete the Salaah, you must first praise Almighty Allah according to His Magnificence and then read the Durood Shareef. Only then should you beg Almighty Allah for what you desire”.Soon after this another person entered the Masjid. When that person completed his Salaah he began to praise Almighty Allah and then recited the Durood Shareef. Seeing this, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said to the person, “O Reciter of the Salaah, ask, for certainly your Du’a will be answered”. (Tirmidhi)
Hadith 8
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Masood (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that, “I read my Salaah in the Masjid when Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (radi Allahu anhuma) were present. When I had completed the Salaah, I began to praise Almighty Allah. Thereafter, I began to read the Durood Shareef. When I started the Du’a, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) exclaimed, ‘Ask, and you shall receive, you shall receive!’”. (Tirmidhi)
Hadith 9
It is reported that someone asked Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), “O Nabi of Allah, if one adopts the recital of the Durood Shareef daily, how then will it be?” Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu wasallam) replied, “If you do this, then enough for you is Allah in the affairs of this world and the next”. (In other words, the person will have no need to run to anybody and all his affairs will be completed with ease). (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 10
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “He who reads a single Durood, Almighty Allah and His Angels (Malaa’ikah) send seventy blessings upon the reciter”. (Mishkaat)
Hadith 11
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Sayyiduna Jibra’el (alaihis salaam) has come to me with good news. He has mentioned, ‘O Nabi of Allah, Whosoever amongst your Ummah reads a single Durood, that person is rewarded by Almighty Allah with ten good deeds, ten of his sins are pardoned and he is increased (in status) ten stages. He is also blessed according to the Durood Shareef’”. (Jaami-us-Sagheer)
Hadith 12
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has commanded us, “Recite the Durood Shareef for verily Durood Shareef is a repayment for your sins. It also cleanses you internally. He who reads a single Durood Shareef, Almighty Allah blesses him ten times”. (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 13
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Increase your recital of the Durood, for the Durood is the best means of repayment for your sins. Supplicate to Almighty Allah through me, for status and intercession, for certainly, in the Court of Almighty Allah, my mediation is intercession (Shafa’at) for you.” (Jaami-us-Sagheer)
Hadith 14
Nabi Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “The constant reader of the Durood Shareef will be given a brilliant light to accompany him over the Pul-Siraat. He who is given this light will not be among the Dwellers of Hell”. (Dalaa’ilul Khayraat)
Hadith 15
Nabi Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Beautify your gatherings (by reading) the Durood Shareef. By reading the Durood it will certainly be your light on the Day of Qiyamah”. (Jaami’us Sagheer)
Hadith 16
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Without doubt, that person who has read the most amount of Durood Shareef will be able to transcend the stages of difficulty and anxiety on the Day of Qiyamah as quickly as possible”. (Shifa Shareef)
Hadith 17
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “On the Day of Qiyamah there will be a group of people around the Fountain of Kauther whom I will recognise as those who used to read the Durood Shareef in abundance”. (Shifa Shareef)O Muslims! Imagine the Hour of Qiyamah! It will be an hour of immense intensity. When the sun will be one mile above one’s head and when the earth will be like a boiling oven. Neither will one be able to hide one’s head nor will water be found. Man’s perspiration will reach his lips. On the other hand, imagine those who will be comfortable under the cool shade and enjoying the cool goblets of drink due to their reading of the Durood Shareef. These fortunate people will also be enjoying the sacred company of Almighty Allah’s beloved Habeeb (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). O Allah! Bestow upon all Muslims, the strength to read as much Durood as possible. Aameen. In the book, “Shawaa’idul-Haqq”, Sayyiduna Shaikh Abu Abdullah (radi Allahu anhu) narrates the following incident.
Once I visited the Holy City of Mecca and met a man who claimed that he never felt thirsty. When I asked him the reason for this strange event, he replied, “There was a time when I did not have any respect for the Sahaba of Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). One night, I dreamt that it was the Day of Qiyamah and there were many people in various queues looking very thirsty and ragged. I decided to follow a queue. We arrived at the Fountain of Kauther and saw that it had four corners. At each corner were the four Caliphs, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, Sayyiduna Uthman and Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhum). I thought that there was no need for me to approach the first three Caliphs as I only believed in Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu). Yet, when I approached him, he turned his head away in displeasure. Feeling extremely alarmed, I approached the other three Caliphs and they also behaved in the same manner. By now I was very despondent.”I noticed that Nabi Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) was also approaching the Fountain. I ran towards him and explained to him the behaviour of the four Caliphs. He replied, ‘Why should beloved Ali offer you a cool drink, when you bear hatred and scorn for the Sahaba?’ When I heard this, I asked Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) whether I would be forgiven or not if I asked pardon for my incorrect beliefs. He replied that I would be forgiven. I then recited the Kalimah again and asked for forgiveness. I was then ordered to return to the Fountain of Kauther and drink from it. After this, I awoke from my sleep. From that night onwards, I have never felt thirsty. I then warned my family that I would only accept those as my true family if they accepted my true beliefs. Some of them did accept”.
The presence of the four Caliphs at the four Pillars of Kauther is also substantiated by a Hadith. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “The Fountain of Kauther possesses four Pillars: one commanded by Abu Bakr, the second by Umar, the third by Uthman and the fourth by Ali (radi Allahu anhum)”.Again, explaining the lofty status of these four Caliphs, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “He who speaks good about Abu Bakr, his religion is well established; he who speaks good about Umar, his religious path has been well grounded’ he who speaks good about Uthman is enlightened with the Noor of Almighty Allah’ and he who speaks good about Ali holds on to a bond that never breaks. They who speak well of my Sahaba (Companions) are truly Mu’mins”. (Shawaa’idul Haqq)
Hadith 18
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “He who reads one thousand Durood Shareefs daily will not leave this world till he sees his abode in Jannatul Firdous”. (Kashful Gumma)
Hadith 19
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “He who recites a single Durood upon me will be blessed a ten times by Almighty Allah, while he who recites ten Durood Shareefs will be blessed a hundred times by Almighty Allah and he who reads a hundred times will be blessed a thousand times by Almighty Allah. For him who reads with love and reverence, I will be his intercessor and Witness on the Day of Qiyamah”. (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 20
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “He who reads a single Durood will be blessed ten times by Almighty Allah while he who reads ten Durood Shareefs will be blessed a hundred times by Almighty Allah. Almighty Allah has also imprints an invisible message on the person’s forehead which will read, ‘This slave is free from Hypocrisy and the Fire of Hell’. On the Day of Qiyamah, he will be with the Shaheeds”. (At Targheeb)
Hadith 21
Sayyiduna Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf (radi Allahu anhu) narrates: We, the Sahaba, used to spend day and night in the company of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). The reason being that we never separated from him was so that we could be of assistance to him in any matter. One day as Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) left his house, I followed him. He entered an orchard and he went into Salaah. He prolonged his Sajdah to such a degree that I began to cry with the thought that perhaps his soul had been taken away. When he completed his Sajdah, he came up to me and asked as to what the problem was. I replied, “O Nabi of Allah, I thought that maybe Almighty Allah had taken away your blessed soul and that I would never be able to see you again”.Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) replied, “Verily, my Creator has rewarded me. Therefore, I prolonged the Sajdah. The reward which I speak about was that my Creator has promised me that whosoever amongst my Ummah reads a single Durood, ten of his sins are pardoned and he is rewarded with ten good deeds”. (Saadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 22
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) once proceeded alone towards an open field. When Sayyiduna Umar (radi Allahu anhu) saw that he was alone, he became worried and followed him with a container of water. As he drew near, he saw that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) was in Sajdah so he moved and sat at one side. When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) had completed the Sajdah, he remarked, “O Umar! You have done good by moving away when you saw me in Sajdah. Sayyiduna Jibra’el Ameen (alaihis salaam) has brought a message from Almighty Allah saying that any person among my Ummah who reads a single Durood, then Almighty Allah will bless him ten times and will also increase him in status”.This very Hadith has also been recorded by Imam Bukhari (radi Allahu anhu) in his book, “Adaabul Mufrad”.
Hadith 23
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “He who reads a single Durood upon me, Almighty Allah blesses him ten times. It is now up to the individual to increase the Durood or not”. (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 24
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “He who reads a single Durood, Almighty Allah blesses him ten times, pardons ten of his sins and Almighty Allah increases his status ten fold (internally). This is also equal to freeing ten slaves”. (At Targheeb)
Hadith 25
Sayyiduna Aamir bin Rabi’ah (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that he heard Nabi Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) say in a sermon that, “As long as the slave of Almighty Allah is reading the Durood, the Angels (Malaa’ikah) bless him. It is now up to the individual to either increase or decrease the recital Durood Shareef”. (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 26
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddique (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that he heard Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) say, “For that person who reads the Durood, I will be his intercessor on the Day of Qiyamah”. (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 27
It is narrated that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) once declared to a Sahabi, “O Abi Kaahil! That person who reads the Durood Shareef thrice every day and night out of love and reverence for me, verily, Almighty Allah considers it necessary to forgive the daily sins of that person”. (At Targheeb)
Hadith 28
ayyidah Ayesha Siddiqa (radi Allahu anha) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “The person who desires that Almighty Allah be pleased with him or her when they are in the Court of Allah, that person should increase the recital of the Durood Shareef”. (Kashful Gumma)
Hadith 29
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “If you forget about anything, you should read the Durood Shareef. By the grace of Almighty Allah, you will remember (what you have forgotten)”. (Sadaatud Daarain)Commentary: It is mentioned that Sayyiduna Khwaja Qaazi Mohammed Sultaan-e-Aalam Meerpuri (radi Allahu anhu), in whose court great Scholars and Saints used to frequent, was in the habit of reading the Durood Shareef continuously. Whenever a question was put to him, he used to immediately point out the answer quoting the book and the page. Others used to find the answer after great search. But this Saint used to merely place his finger on the book and while reading the Durood Shareef used to open the exact page. This was through the Barakah of the Durood Shareef.
Hadith 30
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has advised his Ummah, “O my Ummah! Read the Durood abundantly because the first question that will be asked in the grave will be concerning me”. (Kashful Gumma)Commentary: One must bear in mind that the words “first question” actually means the most important question! One is urged to increase the recital of the Durood Shareef. By doing so, one’s love and reverence for Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is increased. This will be of immense advantage in the grave. It is such a pity that modern Muslims sceptically question others about the status of love that one should possess for Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). All we can say to them is: the grave will be your place of realisation!
The following incident highlights the plight of the modern Muslim.
There were once two scholars who decided to debate about the greatness of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). The debate was held and continued for seven days. On the morning of the eight day, the scholar who was trying to prove the greatness of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) stood before the crowd and proclaimed, “O People! listen, whatever be the outcome of this debate, let it be so. But let us inspect our destiny. I have hardly slept for the past seven nights because the majority of my time was spent finding proofs to the greatness of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). I am sure that the opposing scholar must have spent his time in like manner. Yet, how unfortunate for him in that all the while he was looking for proofs to disprove the greatness of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). How fortunate for me that I was searching the proofs to prove the greatness of my Nabi”.When the opposing scholar heard this declaration, it was as if a veil was removed from his eyes. He replied, “Certainly, he is right! How wretched I am! I have spent all the while looking for proofs to belittle the Prophet. Only now do I realise how unfortunate I am. I, therefore, divorce all affiliation to that group who merely claim to be Muslims by name. Their sole purpose is to rob the Muslims of pure Imaan”.
Hadith 31
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “On the Pillars of the Arsh of Almighty Allah are written the following words, ‘He who desires to meet Me, I bless him. He who asks from Me, I grant him. He who reads the Durood upon my Habeeb (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) desiring My closeness, I pardon his sins, even if it be more than the foams of the ocean’”. (Dalaa’ilul Khayraat)
Hadith 32
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “He who reads the following Durood, ‘Allahuma salli ala Muhammad wa an zil hul Maq-adatil Mubaarakah indaka Yaumul Qiyamah’, my intercession becomes Waajib upon him”. (At Targheeb)
Hadith 33
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “When two friends meet and shake hands and, thereafter, both read the Durood Shareef before they separate, their past and future sins are pardoned”. (Nuzhatun Naazireen)
Hadith 34
Sayyiduna Zaid (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that he once accompanied Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) for a walk. When they reached a small hill, a Bedouin approached them and greeted Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) asked, “O Bedouin! When you were approaching us, what were you reading?” The Bedouin replied, “O Nabi of Allah, I was reading the Durood, ‘Allahuma Sallim ala Muhammad hatta laa tabqa salaatah, Allahuma Baarik ala Muhammad hatta laa tabqa Barakaah. Allahuma Sallim ala Muhammad hatta laa tabqa Salaam. Allahuma irham ala Muhammad hatta laa tabqa rahmaah’”. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) remarked, “Indeed, I saw the Angels (Malaa’ikah) from that place (meaning were the Bedouin was) till the Heavens”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 35
Sayyiduna Abdur Rahmaan bin Samrah (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Tonight I have truly seen a strange sight. I saw one of my followers crossing the Pul-Siraat. At times he was walking, at times falling, and at times he was hanging on. Then I saw that the Durood which he had once read come to his assistance. It grabbed hold of the person, straightened him and led him safely across the Pul-Siraat”. (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 36
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “O my followers! Your recital of the Durood Shareef will be your light in the dark when crossing the Pul-Siraat. Hadith 37
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “O my followers! Your recital of the Durood Shareef is a protector for your Du’as. It also achieves for you the Pleasure of Almighty Allah and it purifies your actions”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 38
It is stated that no person used to sit between Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radi Allahu anhu) in a gathering. One day, a person arrived and sat in between them. This surprised the Sahaba. When the individual had departed, they inquired from Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) about this. He replied, “He is also one of my beloved followers. Whenever he reads the Durood Shareef, he reads, ‘Allahuma salli ala Muhammad kama tahibbu wa tarda lahu’”. (Sadaatud Daarain)Commentary: We realise from this Hadith that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is well aware of the actions of his Ummah. Shah Abdul Aziz (rahmatullahi alaih) substantiates this by saying, “Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) will be a Witness on the Day of Qiyamah because he is able to see each person with the light of Nabuwah. He comprehends whether a person has reached a certain stage in Faith or not. He also understands the obstacles that face each person. Therefore, remember, that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) comprehends your sins, your state of Imaan, the good and the hypocrisy in each individual”. (Tafseer Azeezi: Surah Baqarah)
Hadith 39
Sayyiduna Samrah (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that they were present with Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) when a person arrived and asked, “O Nabi of Allah! What are the beloved actions with Allah?” Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) replied, “Speak the truth and fulfil your trust”. When asked further, he replied, “To perform the Tahajjud and to fast in Summer”. When asked further, he replied, “To increase the Zikr of Almighty Allah and to read the Durood Shareef as it eradicates poverty”. When asked further, he replied, “The Imaam of the congregation should shorten the duration of the Salaah, for among the congregation are those who are elderly, sick, children and those involved in trade”. (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 40
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “He who records a Durood in a book and as long as my name is in that book, the Angels (Malaa’ikah) seek forgiveness for that person”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 41
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “He who writes any knowledgable matter about me and with it also writes the Durood Shareef upon me, then as long as the book is read, the writer will receive the reward (for having written the Durood Shareef)”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 42
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “On the Day of Qiyamah, Almighty Allah will bring forward the Scholars and Muhadditheen. Their ink will be of sweet scent. When they are placed in the Court of the Almighty, He will proclaim, ‘For a long period, you have recited the Durood Shareef upon My Messenger. Therefore, O Malaa’ikah, take them into Jannah’”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 43
It is mentioned that a person came to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and complained to him about poverty and hardship. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) replied, “When you enter your house, you should say, ‘As Salaamo Alaikum’ if there is anybody there. If there are no occupants then you should read the Salaam upon me being, ‘As Salaamo alaikum Ya Ayyuhan Nabi wa rahmatullaahi wa barakatuhu’. Thereafter, you should read Surah Ahad (Qul Huwal laahu Ahad) once”.It is mentioned that when the person began to practise upon this advice, the Doors of Bounty was open to him and even his friends and relatives began to receive bounty through him. (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 44
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “He who reads the Holy Quran, praises his Creator and he who reads the Durood Shareef upon me, verily, he has found for himself a place of honour”. (Al Qolul Badi)

Almighty Allah has given you an abode in Jannah whose might is equivalent to 300 years of travel. It is surrounded by winds of miracle. Those persons that used to read the Durood Shareef in abundance will enter the alcove”. (Nuzhatul Majaalis)
Hadith 50
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “On the Day of Qiyamah, three types of persons will be under the shade of the Divine Throne, besides whose shade there will be no shade”. When he asked as to who these persons were, he replied, “The first is he who removes a difficult experience by one of my followers. The second is he who revives one of my practises. The third is he who has read the Durood Shareef in abundance”. (Al Qolul Badi)

We have visited such servants of yours who revere Your Bounties. They recite the Revealed Book and send Durood Shareef upon Your beloved Messenger. They supplicate to You (asking good) for the present and the Hereafter’.”In reply to this, Almighty Allah declares, ‘Surround them with My Mercy’. The Angels reply that there was also one among the gathering who was a disobedient and sinful person. To this, Almighty Allah says, ‘Surround them still with My Mercy, for they who sit together in this manner, none amongst them is unfortunate’”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 54
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “There are certain individuals who are the Awtaads (extremely pious) of the Divine Throne. They have their twin in the Angels. When they go away, the Angels go in search of them. When they fall sick the Angels visit them. When they visit the Masjid again the Angels welcome them. When they seek assistance the Angels are there to assist them. When they rest, they are guarded by Angels from the Heavens to the Earth. The Angels inscribe the Durood Shareef that the Awtaad is reading with pens of gold on Plates of silver. They bless the Awtaads with the words, ‘Increase your Zikr and Durood Shareef. May Almighty Allah have Mercy upon you and may He increase His reward and Blessing upon you’. When the Awtaad reads the Zikr, a door is opened to him in the Heavens and his Du’a is accepted. Beautiful Maidens peer at him and the Mercy of Almighty Allah surrounds him till he remains in Zikr. When he departs from the place of Zikr, the Angels then seek other gatherings of Zikr”. (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 55
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “When you hear the Azaan being read, you should read as the Mu’azzin is reading. Thereafter, you should read the Durood Shareef. He who reads the Durood Shareef once, Almighty Allah bestows ten blessings upon him. You should then read a Du’a using me as a Wasila (Medium), for in Jannah there is a mansion named Wasila which was built for one person and I have hope that, that person will be me. He who pleads to Almighty Allah using me as his Wasila will be blessed with my intercession on the Day of Qiyamah”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 56
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has stated that, “He who reads the Durood Shareef in abundance will be blessed with many beautiful Maidens as wives in Jannah”. (Kashful Gumma)

Best Times to make Dua (Supplication)
There are certain times dua (supplication)
is more likely to be accepted by Allah (SWT)
as mentioned by Prophet (SAW). These
times are as follows:
1. The Last Third Of The Night
Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that Allah’s
Messenger (SAW) said: ‘In the last third
of every night our Rabb (Cherisher and
Sustainer) (Allah (SWT)) descends to the
lowermost heaven and says; “Who is
calling Me, so that I may answer him?
Who is asking Me so that may I grant
him? Who is seeking forgiveness from
Me so that I may forgive him?.”‘
[Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith Qudsi]
Amr ibn Absah narrated that the
Prophet said: ‘The closest any
worshipper can be to His Lord is
during the last part of the night,
so if you can be amongst those
who remember Allah at that time,
then do so.’[at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'i,
al-Hakim - Sahih]
2. Late at night
When people are sleeping and busy
with worldly pleasures Allah (SWT)
gives the believers an opportunity,
or an answer hour if they can fight
sleep and invoke Allah (SWT) for
whatever they need. The Prophet
(SAW) said: ‘There is at night an
hour, no Muslim happens to be
asking Allah any matter of this world
or the Hereafter, except that he will
be given it, and this (occurs) every night.’
[Muslim #757]
3. Between Adhan and Iqamah
Anas (RA) narrated that Allah’s
Messenger (SAW) said: ‘A supplication
made between the Adhan and Iqama
is not rejected.’
[Ahmad, abu Dawud #521, at-Tirmidhi
#212, Sahih al-Jami #3408, an-Nasai
and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (sound)]
4. An Hour On Friday
Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): Allah’s
Messenger (SAW) talked about Friday
and said: ‘There is an hour on Friday
and if a Muslim gets it while offering Salat
(prayer) and asks something from
Allah (SWT), then Allah (SWT) will definitely
meet his demand.’ And he (the Prophet (SAW)
pointed out the shortness of that
particular time with his hands.
[Sahih al-Bukhari]
Some have said that this hour is from
the time the Imam (prayer’s leader)
enters the mosque on Friday’s prayer
until the prayer is over (ie between the
two khutbahs), whereas others have
said that it is the last hour of the day
(ie after the Asr prayer until the
Maghrib prayer).
5. While Drinking Zamzam Water
Jaber (RA) narrated that Allah’s
Messenger (SAW) said: ‘Zamzam
water is for what it is drunk for.’
[Ahmad 3: 357 and Ibn Majah #3062].
This means that when you drink Zamzam
water you may ask Allah (SWT) for anything
you like to gain or benefit from this water
such as healing from illness…. etc.
6. While Prostrating
Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that
Allah’s Messenger (SAW), said:
‘The nearest a slave can be to his Lord
is when he is prostrating, so invoke
(supplicate) Allah (SWT) much in it.
[Muslim, abu Dawud, an-Nasa'i and others,
Sahih al-Jami #1175]
When a Muslim is in his Salat (prayer)
he is facing Allah (SWT) and when
he prostrates he is the nearest
he can be to Allah (SWT) so it is
best to invoke Allah (SWT) at this time.
It is said that while in prostration,
one should not ask for worldy needs
(ie a nice car, a new job, etc),
but for the Hereafter.
7. When Waking Up at Night
Narrated Ubada Bin As-Samit that
Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said:
‘Whomever wakes up at night and
says La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la
shrika lahu lahulmulku, wa lahul hamdu,
wa huwa ala kulli shai’in qadir.
Alhamdu lillahi, wa subhanallahi
wa la ilaha illallahu, wallah akbir,
wa la hawla wala quwata illa billah
(none has the right to be worshipped
but Allah (SWT) He is the only one who
has no partners. His is the kingdom and
all the praises are for Allah (SWT)
All the glories are for Allah (SWT)
And none has the right to be worshipped
but Allah (SWT) and Allah (SWT)
is the most Great and there is neither
might nor power except with Allah (SWT)
and then says, Allahumma ighfir li
(O Allah! Forgive me) or invokes Allah
(SWT), he will be responded to and
if he makes ablution and performs
Salat (prayer), his Salat (prayer) will
be accepted. [Sahih al-Bukhari]
8. At The End Of The Obligatory Salat:
Narrated Abu Omamah (RA): that
Allah’s Messenger (SAW) was asked,
O Messenger of Allah, which supplication
is heard (by Allah (SWT), he said the end
of the night and at the end of the obligatory
Salat (prayer) [at-Tirmidhi].
This time is after saying ‘At-tahyat’ ,
and before making Tasleem (finishing prayer)
9. The Night Of ‘Qadr’ (Decree)
This night is the greatest night of the year.
This is the night which the almighty
Allah (SWT) said about it,
“The night of Al-Qadar (Decree) is better
than a thousand months.” [Surah al-Qadr, 97: 3]
The Night of Decree is one of the odd
nights of the last ten nights of the blessed
month of Ramadan. The angels descend
down to the earth, and the earth is
overwhelmed with peace and serenity
until the break of dawn and when he
doors of Paradise are opened, the
worshipper is encouraged to turn to Allah
to ask for his needs for this world
and the Hereafter.
10. During The Rain
Narrated Sahel Ibn Sa’ad (RA):
that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:
‘Two will not be rejected,
Supplication when the Adhan
(call of prayer) is being called,
and at the time of the rain’.
[Al-Hakim 2: 114, and Abu Dawud
#2540, ibn Majah]
‘Seek the response to your du’as
when the armies meet, and the prayer
is called, and when rain falls’
[reported by Imam al-Shafi' in al-Umm,
al-Sahihah #1469]. The time of the
rain is a time of mercy from Allah (SWT)
so, one should take advantage of
this time when Allah (SWT) is having
mercy on His slaves.
11. At the Adhan
‘Seek the response to your du’as
when the armies meet, and the prayer
is called, and when rain falls’
[reported by Imam al-Shafi' in al-Umm,
al-Sahihah #1469]
In another hadith; ‘When the prayer is
called, the doors of the skies are opened,
and the du’a is answered’
[al-Tayalisi in his Musnad #2106,
al-Sahihah #1413]
12. The One Who Is Suffering
Injustice and Opression
The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said
to Mua’ad Ibn Jabal (RA),
‘Beware of the supplication of the
unjustly treated, because there is
no shelter or veil between it
(the supplication of the one who is
suffering injustice) and Allah (SWT)’
[Sahih Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
The prophet (SAW) declared,
‘Three men whose dua is
rejected (by Allah) are: the fasting
person until he breaks his fast
(in another narration,
when he breaks fast), the just ruler
and the one who is oppressed.
‘[Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi - Hasan]
In another hadith; The Prophet (SAW)
declared: ‘Three du’as are surely answered:
The du’a of the oppressed, the du’a
of the traveler, and the du’a of the
father/mother (upon their child)’.
The One who is suffering injustice
is heard by Allah (SWT) when he
invokes Allah (SWT) to retain his
rights from the unjust one or oppressor.
Allah (SWT) has sworn to help the one
who is suffering from injustice sooner
or later as the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said.
13. The Traveler
The Messenger of Allah
(SAW) said; Three supplications
will not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)),
the supplication of the parent for his child,
the supplication of the one who is fasting,
and the supplication of the traveler.
[al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi - Sahih]
During travel supplication is heard by
Allah (SWT) if the trip is for a good reason,
but if the trip is for a bad intention
or to perform illegal things (making sins)
this will not apply to it.
14. The Parent’s Supplication for their Child
The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said;
Three supplications will not be rejected
(by Allah (SWT)), the supplication
of the parent for his child, the supplication
of the one who is fasting, and the
supplication of the traveler.
[al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi - Sahih]
15. Dua after praising Allah and
giving salat on the Prophet (SAW) in the
tashahhud at the end of salat.
Narrated Faddalah ibn Ubayd (RA):
that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:
‘When anyone of you makes du’a,
let him start by glorifying his Lord
and praising Him, then let him send
blessings upon the Prophet (SAW),
then let him pray for whatever he wants’
[abu Dawud #1481, at-Tirmidhi #3477]
In another hadith; Baqiy ibn Mukhallid
(RA) narrated that that the Messenger
of Allah (SAW) said: ‘Every du’a is not
responded to until one sends
upon the Prophet (SAW)’ [al-Bayhaqi]
In another hadith; Umar (RA) narrated
that the Prophet (SAW) said: ‘Du’a is
detained between the heavens and
the earth and no part of it is taken up
until you send blessings upon
Prophet (SAW)’ [at-Tirmidhi #486]
After a person has finished his tashahhud
and before saying the ‘salam’,
at this time is one likely to be responded to.
Ibn Mas’ud narrates: I was once praying,
and the Prophet (SAW), Abu Bakr and
(were all present). When I sat down
(in the final tashahhud), I praised Allah,
then sent salams on the Prophet,
then started praying for myself.
At this, the Prophet (SAW) said:
‘Ask, and you shall be given it! Ask,
and you shall be given it!’
[at-Tirmidhi #593 - hasan,
Mishkat al-Misbah #931]
16. The dua of a Muslim for his absent
brother or sister Muslim stemming from the heart.
The prophet (SAW) said:
‘There is no believing servant who
supplicates for his brother in his
absence where the angels do not say,
‘the same be for you” [Muslim]
17. Dua on the Day of Arafat
The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:
‘The best supplication is the supplication
on the day of Arafat’. [at-Tirmidhi and Malik]
The day of Arafat is the essence
and pinnacle of Hajj. On this great
and momentous day, millions of worshippers
gather together on one plain, from every
corner of the world, with only one purpose
in mind – to respone to the call of their Creator.
During this auspicious day, Allah does
not refuse the requests of His worshippers.
18. Dua during the month of Ramadan
Ramadan is month full of many blessings,
thus the du’a of Ramadan is a blessed one.
This can be inferred from the
Prophet (SAW) saying: ‘When Ramadan comes,
the Doors of Mercy
(another narration says Paradise) are opened,
and the doors of Hell are closed,
and the Shaitans are locked up’
Thus, it is clear that du’a during Ramadan
has a greater chance of being accepted,
as the Gates of Paradise and Mercy are opened.
[Sahih al-Bukhari #1899, Muslim #1079 and others]
19. Dua when the Armies meet
When the Muslim is facing the enemy
in battle, at this critical period,
the du’a of a worshipper is accepted.
Sahl ibn Sa’d (RA) narrtaed the the
Prophet (SAW) said: ‘Two duas are never rejected,
or rarely rejected: the du’a during the
call for prayer, and the du’a during the
clamity when the two armies attack each other’
[Abu Dawud #2540, ibn Majah, al-Hakim]
20. When Muslims gather for the
purpose of invoking and remembering
Allah (Dhikrullah).
The Prophet (SAW) said: If a group
of people sit together remembering Allah,
the angels will circle them, mercy
will shroud them, peace will descend
onto them and Allah will remember
them among those with Him. [Muslim]
21. First Ten days of Dhul-Hijjah
The Prophet (SAW) said:
‘There are no days during which good
deeds are more beloved to Allah
than during these ten days’
[Sahih al-Bukhai #969 and others]
22. Dua when the heart reaches
out to Allah and is ready to be totally sincere
23. At Midnight
Abu Umamah (RA) said,
the Prophet (SAW) was questioned;
‘Which du’a is heard (by Allah)?’
He answered, ‘At midnight and at the
end of every obligatory prayer.
‘ [at-Tirmidhi - Hasan]
25. Dua of people after the death of a person
In a long hadith, Umm Salamah (RA)
narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said,
when Abu Salamah had just passed away,
and had closed his eyes, ‘Do not ask
for yourselves anything but good,
for the angels will say ‘Ameen’ to all
that you ask for. O Allah, forgive Abu Salamah,
and raise his ranks among those
who are guided.’
[Muslim, abu Dawud, Ahmad]
26. Dua of the one fasting until
he breaks his fast.
The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said;
Three supplications will not be
rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication
of the parent for his child, the
supplication of the one who is fasting,
and the supplication of the traveler.
[al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi - Sahih]
27. Dua of the one fasting at the
time of breaking fast
The prophet (SAW) declared,
‘Three men whose dua is never rejected
(by Allah) are: when a fasting person
breaks fast (in another narration,
the fasting person until he breaks his fast),
the just ruler and the one
who is oppressed.
‘[Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi - Hasan]
29. Dua of a justice Ruler
The prophet (SAW) declared,
‘Three men whose dua is never rejected
(by Allah) are: the fasting person
until he breaks his fast
(in another narration,
when he breaks fast),
the just ruler and the one
who is oppressed.
‘[Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi - Hasan]
30. Dua of a son or daughter
obedient to his or her parents
It is well known in the story
narrated in hadith os three men
who were trapped by a huge stone in a cave.
One of them who was kind to his parents
asked Allah to remove the stone,
and his du’a was answered.
[Sahih al-Bukhari 3:36 #472]
31. Dua immediately after wudu
Umar ibn Al-Khattab reported
that the Prophet (SAW) said:
‘There is not one of you that makes wudu,
and does it perfectly, then says:
I testify that there is no diety worthy
of worship except Allah. he is Alone,
having no partners.
And I bear witness that Muhammad is His
slave and messenger’,
except that the eight gates of Paradise
are opened for him, and he can enter
into it through whichever one he pleases’
[Muslim #234, abu Dawud #162,
Ahmad, an-Nasa'i] Saying
what has been mentioned in the hadith
that is directly related to it (ablution)
32. Dua after stoning the Jamarat at Hajj
The stoning of the small Shaitan
(jamrat sugra), or the middle Shaitan
(jamrat wusta) pillars during Hajj.
It is narrated that the Prophet (SAW)
would stone the small Jamarah
(one of the three pillars that is
stoned in the last days of Hajj),
then face the qiblah, raise his hands,
and make du’a for a long time.
He would then stone the middle
Jamarah and do the same.
When he stoned the large Jamarah,
he would depart without making any
du’a. [Sahih al-Bukhari
#1753 and others]
33. At the Crowing of a Rooster
Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated
that the Prophet (SAW) said:
‘When you hear a rooster crowing,
then ask Allah for His bounties,
for it has seen an angel, and
when you hear a donkey braying,
then seek refuge in Allah from Shaitan,
for it has seen a Shaitan’
[Sahih al-Bukhari, Muslim,
Ahmad, Sahih al-Jami #611]
34. Du’a made inside the Ka’bah
The Ka’bah is a sanctuary that has
no comparison in the entire world.
The du’a of one who prays inside
the hijr is considered as being made
inside the ka’bah, as it is part
of the house (Baitullah).
[This is the semicircle to the right
of the Ka'bah if you face the door,
opposite to the Yemeni corner
and the Black stone wall.]
Usamah ibn Zayd narrated,
‘When the Prophet (SAW) entered
the House (Ka’bah), he made du’a in
all of its corners
[Muslim 2: 968 and others]
35. Du’a on the mount of Safa
or Marwah during Umrah or Hajj

would make long du’as at
Safa and Marwah.

37. While reciting Surah al-Fatihah
The Prophet (SAW) said that
Allah the Exalted had said:
‘I have divided the prayer into
two halves between Me and My servant,
and My servant will receive
what he asks for. When the servant says:
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the universe,
Allah the Most High says:
My servant has praised Me.
And when he (the servant) says:
The Most Compassionate, the Merciful,
Allah the Most High says:
My servant has lauded Me. When he
(the servant) says: Master of the Day
of Judgment, He remarks:
My servant has glorified Me,
and sometimes He will say:
My servant entrusted (his affairs) to Me.
When he (the worshipper) says:
Thee do we worship and of
Thee do we ask help, He (Allah) says:
This is between Me and My servant,
and My servant will receive what he asks for
. Then, when he (the worshipper) says:
Guide us to the straight path,
the path of those to whom
Thou hast been Gracious –
not of those who have incurred
Thy displeasure, nor of those who have
gone astray, He (Allah) says:
This is for My servant, and
My servant will receive what he asks for.
[Muslim 4: 395]
38. Saying ‘Ameen’ during prayer
After finishing the recitation of al-Fatihah,
the saying of’Ameen’ in congregation.
The Prophet (SAW) said:
‘When the Imam says ‘Ameen’,
then recite it behind him (as well),
because whoever’s Ameen coincides
with the Ameen of the angels

his forgiveness till the morning, and
he will be granted a garden for it in Jannah.’
[at-Tirmidhi, abu Dawud]

PRACTICE DUA FOR DAILY LIFE FROM QURAN AND SUNNAH
Remembrance of Allah in all Conditions
Allah Almighty says in the Qur’an:
“When my servants ask you concerning me, (tell them) I am indeed close (to them). I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on me.” [2:186]
The place of duaa is so high to Allah, that the Prophet had said:
“Nothing is more honourable to Allah the Most High than du`a.”
[Sahih al-Jami` no.5268].
He also said: “The most excellent worship is du`a.”
[Sahih Al-Jami` no. 1133];
“If one does not ask Allah, He will get angry with him.”
[Sahih al-Jami` no.2414]

Why our Du’as are not answered
by ibn Rajab al Hanbali
from Khushu’ fis-salah
Ibrahim ibn Adham – may Allah have mercy on
him – a third century scholar, a teacher and a
companion of Sufyan ath-Thawri, was asked
about the saying of Allah – the Most High:
“and your Lord says: “Call on me I will answer
your prayer…”
[40:60]
“We supplicate and we are not answered.”
So he said to them:
You know Allah,
Yet you do not obey Him,
You recite the Qur’an,
Yet do not act according to it,
You know Shaitan,
Yet you have agreed with him,
You proclaim that you love Muhammad
Yet you abandon his Sunnah,
You proclaim your love for Paradise,
Yet you do not act to gain it,
You proclaim your fear the Fire,
Yet you do not prevent yourselves from sins,
You say “Indeed death is true”,
Yet you have not prepared for it,
You point out the faults with others,
Yet you do not look at your faults,
You eat of that which Allah has provided for you,
Yet you do not thank Him,
You bury your dead,
Yet you do not take a lesson from it.”

Duas for Health
and
Well-being
“رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ “
Rabbu inni massani-yadh-urru wa ‘anta arhamur-Raahimeen
O my Rubb, Surely, distress has touched me, and You are the most Merciful of the merciful ones.
[surah al-Anbiya; 21:83]
- what Prophet Ayyub (alayhis salam) recited
=====================================
For Distress and Anguish
(Happpiness & peace)

Oh Allah, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, the son of your maid-servant, and entirely at Your service. You hold me by my forelock. Your Decree is what
controls me, and Your Commands to me are just. I beseech You by every one of Your Names, those which You use to refer to Yourself, or have revealed in Your Book,
or have taught to any one of Your creation, or have chosen to keep hidden with You in the Unseen, to make the Qur’an Al-Karim the springtime of my heart, the light of
my eyes, the departure of my grief, and the vanishing of my affliction and my sorrow.
